Kidney stones can cause pain (renal colic), blood in the urine, blockage of the urinary tract, kidney damage, and urinary infections.
Our group of nephrologists at Kidney Care El Paso work closely with urologists who apply minimally invasive techniques to treat kidney stones. Stones may be extracted or fragmented using tiny instruments through natural body channels such as the urethra, bladder and ureter. Our nephrologists provide evaluation of the cause of kidney stone development, and provide strategies to prevent recurrent stone formation. Some of these strategies are dietary modifications specific to the type or stone, and some may be through medications.
